Description

Double Bell JW3 Baba Yaga Gas Blowback Airsoft Pistol with Deluxe Collector Box in Black (789+)

The Double Bell 789+ JW3 Baba Yaga Gas Blowback Airsoft Pistol in Black takes the familiar Hi-Capa-style platform and gives it the full competition-inspired treatment. Finished predominantly in black, with metal construction across the main body and controls and a polymer grip, this airsoft pistol has plenty of weight and mechanical presence in the hand. It also arrives as part of a deluxe collector set, complete with JW-themed display pieces and presentation case. So yes, it looks the part sitting on a shelf, but underneath the collector appeal is a fully functional Green Gas GBB pistol that can be taken straight onto the skirmish field.

Power comes from Green Gas, which drives both the firing cycle and the moving metal slide. Every shot produces that familiar gas blowback snap through the grip, making the 789+ feel much more alive than a fixed-slide BB pistol. Once the 28-round magazine is empty, the slide locks back, giving you an immediate visual and tactile indication that it's time to reload. It's a simple feature, but one that adds a lot to the realistic handling. Drop the empty mag, feed in a fresh one, release the slide and you're back in action. Very satisfying.

The pistol's Hi-Capa-inspired layout also brings some useful competition-style controls. The magazine release is extended, making it easier to reach without twisting your firing hand around the grip, while the flared magwell widens the base of the magazine opening. Think of it as a small funnel for the magazine. You still need to aim roughly in the right direction, obviously, but during a hurried reload it helps guide the magazine home with less fiddling. When you're behind cover with BBs pinging off the wall nearby, that little bit of assistance suddenly feels rather clever.

Ambidextrous safety levers are fitted on both sides of the frame, making the airsoft handgun comfortable for left- and right-handed players alike. The listed firing arrangement is Safe and Single Shot, keeping the controls straightforward and familiar. The polymer grip helps keep the pistol comfortable while the metal components provide the substantial feel you'd expect from a full-size GBB pistol. It's a nice balance. Heavy enough to feel convincing, but without making the grip itself unnecessarily bulky.

Double Bell has also included an adjustable hop-up system. Hop-up applies backspin to the 6mm BB, helping it maintain a flatter trajectory and improving usable range when set correctly. The trick is to adjust it gradually for the BB weight you're actually using rather than constantly winding it from one extreme to the other. Too little hop and your BBs fall short. Too much and they'll start climbing away from your sight line. Get it dialled in and the 789+ becomes a far more predictable airsoft gun at normal pistol engagement distances.

The supplied Green Gas magazine holds 28 rounds, giving the pistol a useful capacity for a secondary or dedicated CQB sidearm. Because the same magazine stores the gas used to cycle the slide, temperature and gas pressure can affect performance. The listed output places the pistol in the 301-350 FPS category, but Green Gas airsoft pistols rarely produce one identical figure in every environment. A warm game day will usually give stronger cycling than a freezing winter morning, so chronographing the pistol under the conditions you intend to use it in is always sensible.

The black finish suits the Baba Yaga styling particularly well. This isn't meant to look like a plain service handgun; the competition-style Hi-Capa profile, enlarged magwell, extended controls and metal slide give it a much more customised appearance. Put it down beside a standard black airsoft pistol and the difference is obvious. One looks like it came straight from an armoury rack. The other looks like somebody spent far too long deciding how to make every control faster, larger and more dramatic. You can probably guess which category the 789+ falls into.

Then there's the deluxe collector presentation. The set includes JW-themed coins, a pencil, Continental card, loader, bag, certificate and a dedicated display case. That makes the package considerably more interesting for film-inspired collectors than an ordinary boxed GBB pistol. Open the case and the presentation immediately feels deliberate rather than thrown together. The nice part is that none of this comes at the expense of the airsoft side. Take the pistol out and you're still left with a practical Green Gas airsoft handgun with blowback, adjustable hop-up and useful competition-style controls.

As with any full metal GBB pistol, a little maintenance goes a long way. Keep the slide rails and moving surfaces clean, use suitable airsoft-safe lubricant sparingly and pay attention to the magazine seals and valves. More oil isn't better. Mix excessive lubricant with dust and debris and you can end up with the airsoft equivalent of grinding paste inside the mechanism. Treat the magazine properly too, because gas magazines contain valves and seals rather than simply being hollow BB containers.

The Double Bell 789+ JW3 Baba Yaga therefore sits nicely between a skirmish sidearm and a display piece. The 28-round Green Gas magazine, realistic blowback, slide lock, adjustable hop-up, flared magwell and ambidextrous controls give it plenty of practical value, while the black competition-inspired appearance and deluxe JW-themed collector package make it far more interesting when it's not being used. If you want a full metal airsoft pistol with some cinema-inspired flair but still expect it to behave like a proper GBB pistol, the 789+ has a lot going for it. Looks dramatic in the case. Feels even better when the slide starts cycling.
