A long-range SCAR platform that blends marksman rifle accuracy with the reliability of a modern Airsoft AEG.

Description.

The FN Herstal SCAR H-TPR Airsoft Gun by ARES is a fascinating addition to the SCAR family. While most players instantly think of the SCAR-L or SCAR-H battle rifles seen across skirmish fields, the TPR version takes things in a different direction. TPR stands for Tactical Precision Rifle, and that's exactly what this platform has been built to deliver. It bridges the gap between a conventional airsoft assault rifles platform and an airsoft sniper rifle, creating a versatile rifle that excels at accurate semi-automatic shooting while retaining the familiar controls and ergonomics that have made the SCAR platform so popular.

Manufactured by ARES under official FN Herstal licence, this airsoft gun captures the appearance and feel of the real firearm exceptionally well. Official trademarks, authentic dimensions and carefully selected materials all contribute to a replica that feels every bit as impressive as it looks. Pick it up for the first time and the quality is immediately obvious. The balance feels right, the controls have a reassuringly solid action, and the overall finish gives the impression of a premium rifle rather than just another AEG.

Externally, the SCAR H-TPR combines a robust aluminium upper receiver with a reinforced nylon fibre lower receiver. This mirrors the construction of the real rifle while helping to keep weight under control. At approximately 2940g, the rifle feels substantial without becoming tiring during longer skirmishes. It has enough weight to feel realistic but remains comfortable enough for a full day on the field.

The black finish complements the rifle's precision-oriented styling perfectly. Unlike many tactical rifles that look bulky or oversized, the SCAR H-TPR maintains the clean, aggressive lines that have made the SCAR platform famous worldwide. It looks every bit the designated marksman rifle, yet it still retains the rugged military appearance that airsofters love.

One of the first things you'll notice is the rifle's impressive length. Measuring between 1010mm and 1070mm depending on stock adjustment, this is a considerably larger platform than the compact SCAR-SC or standard CQB rifles. That extra length isn't just for looks. It houses a substantial 510mm inner barrel which helps maximise consistency and accuracy, making this rifle particularly appealing for players who enjoy engaging targets at longer ranges.

The modular stock is another standout feature. Unlike fixed precision rifle stocks that only suit certain shooting positions, the TPR stock can be adjusted to fit different body types and equipment setups. Whether you're wearing lightweight summer kit or a full tactical vest loaded with magazines and equipment, the stock can be adjusted to achieve a comfortable shooting position.

Along the top of the receiver runs a lengthy Picatinny rail. This gives plenty of room for optics ranging from compact red dots through to magnified scopes. Most players running the SCAR H-TPR will likely choose a variable zoom optic or dedicated rifle scope to take full advantage of the platform's long-range capabilities. Additional rail space allows for bipods, lasers, torches or other mission-specific accessories.

The front end also includes a standard 14mm CCW thread, making it easy to customise the rifle with suppressors, tracers or alternative muzzle devices. A suppressor suits the rifle particularly well visually, extending its designated marksman rifle appearance and giving it a more purposeful look on the field.

Internally, ARES has equipped the SCAR H-TPR with many of the features experienced players actively seek out when shopping for a premium Airsoft AEG. At the heart of the system sits the ARES EFCS gearbox. The Electronic Fire Control System replaces traditional trigger contacts with electronic controls, delivering a noticeably sharper trigger response and improved reliability over conventional mechanical systems.

The electronic trigger unit works alongside a programmable MOSFET, helping to optimise electrical efficiency while protecting the trigger system from wear. Trigger response feels crisp and immediate, particularly when paired with a quality LiPo battery. For players who spend most of their time firing carefully aimed semi-automatic shots, that responsiveness becomes incredibly valuable.

ARES has also included silver wiring and a T-Dean connector from the factory. These upgrades help reduce electrical resistance and improve power delivery throughout the rifle. While they might not be the most glamorous features on a specification sheet, they contribute significantly to overall performance and reliability.

The Version 2 gearbox itself is built around durability and upgrade potential. Being based on the widely supported V2 platform means replacement and upgrade parts are readily available should you wish to fine-tune performance in the future. The gearbox also incorporates a quick change spring system, allowing users to adjust power levels without fully dismantling the gearbox.

Included with the rifle is an additional 1.3 Joule spring, giving owners the option to increase power where site limits permit. The quick spring change system makes this process far simpler than it would be on many traditional AEG platforms. Instead of spending hours stripping the gearbox apart, adjustments can be made much more efficiently.

Performance from the factory is approximately 330 FPS, placing the rifle within typical skirmish site limits while providing excellent consistency. Combined with the long inner barrel and adjustable hop-up unit, the SCAR H-TPR is capable of producing accurate shots at impressive distances. The adjustable hop-up system allows users to fine-tune BB trajectory for different BB weights and environmental conditions.

Although this rifle is often categorised alongside precision rifles, it remains far more flexible than many dedicated sniper platforms. Unlike a bolt-action rifle, the SCAR H-TPR allows for rapid follow-up shots when needed. That versatility makes it attractive to players who want enhanced range and accuracy without sacrificing the ability to react quickly during dynamic engagements.

The included 100-round mid-cap magazine suits the rifle's role perfectly. Mid-cap magazines eliminate the rattling associated with high-capacity magazines, making movement quieter and more realistic. Feeding is reliable, and the magazine capacity encourages a more deliberate style of gameplay rather than indiscriminate firing.

Another premium touch is the hard transport case included with the package. Rather than arriving in a simple cardboard box, the rifle comes housed in a dedicated hard case complete with a metal carry handle. The case provides secure protection during transport and has enough room for accessories and additional magazines, making it ideal for players who regularly travel to skirmish sites.

As a BB Gun and airsoft rifle, the FN Herstal SCAR H-TPR occupies a very interesting niche. It offers much of the accuracy and range-focused design that designated marksman players want while retaining the reliability and practicality of a modern AEG. It feels equally at home supporting teammates from distance, engaging targets across open ground, or holding key positions where accurate shot placement matters.

For players who appreciate realistic licensed replicas, excellent build quality and strong out-of-the-box performance, the ARES SCAR H-TPR is an impressive package. It looks fantastic, performs consistently and offers plenty of room for future customisation. Whether you're building a designated marksman loadout, adding to a SCAR collection or simply looking for something different from the sea of M4 platforms, this rifle deserves serious consideration.
