G&G LEVAR Modern Lever Action 15" GBB Rifle in Macaron Blue

The G&G LEVAR Modern Lever Action 15" in Macaron Blue is the sort of airsoft gun that gets a second look before you've even loaded a magazine. From the top, you've got the familiar lines of a modern AR-style airsoft rifle, complete with a long aluminium M-LOK handguard and full-length Picatinny rail. Drop your eyes underneath the receiver, though, and there's that enormous lever loop. Modern tactical rifle meets old-school western repeater. It sounds like two completely different ideas fighting for space, yet G&G has somehow made the combination feel remarkably natural.

Unlike an Airsoft AEG, the LEVAR uses gas power combined with a genuinely manual lever-operated action. Pull the trigger, work the lever through its stroke and you're ready for the next BB. There's no automatic cycling doing the work for you, so shooting has a deliberate rhythm: shoulder the rifle, line up the shot, fire, cycle and settle back onto target. Ever had that satisfying feeling when a mechanical action runs smoothly and you immediately want to do it again? Yeah, the LEVAR has plenty of that. It naturally encourages accurate, considered shooting rather than simply throwing a wall of BBs downrange.

It's important to clear up one common misconception as well: the LEVAR is not a shell-ejecting airsoft rifle. There are no individual cartridges to load, lose in the grass or hunt for after every game. Instead, G&G has designed the rifle to feed from standard M4 / AR-15 AEG magazines, with a neat 32-round low-capacity magazine supplied in the box. That's a very practical decision. You get the hands-on character of a lever action without turning every reload into an archaeological dig for missing shells. The internal gas reservoir is separate from the BB magazine too, so changing magazines doesn't automatically mean refilling the rifle with gas.

Starting at the front, this 15-inch LEVAR wears a long aluminium M-LOK handguard that gives the rifle a purposeful, modern profile. M-LOK slots provide plenty of options for positioning compatible hand stops, grips and other accessories without surrounding the entire front end in chunky fixed rail sections. Across the top runs a Picatinny rail with plenty of space for compatible optics. A compact red dot looks particularly at home here and keeps the rifle quick to shoulder, though there's enough rail estate to experiment with your preferred setup. The combination of aluminium and metal construction also gives the LEVAR some reassuring substance in the hands rather than the hollow feel sometimes associated with lighter replicas.

Move back towards the receiver and G&G's AR influence becomes even clearer. The LEVAR is designed around compatibility with G&G M4 / AR-15 AEG upper receivers, giving keen builders some very interesting customisation possibilities. Standard M4 AEG magazine compatibility is arguably even more useful during normal skirmishing, as suitable magazines are considerably easier to source than an obscure proprietary lever-action design. There's also an ambidextrous magazine release, a small detail on paper but one that left-handed players will appreciate. The whole arrangement feels familiar enough to pick up quickly while still being completely different once you start working that lever.

That lever is, naturally, the star of the show. Each shot requires a proper manual cycle to operate the loading mechanism and prepare the rifle to fire again. Compared with a conventional assault rifle-style Airsoft AEG or semi-automatic GBB rifle, it's slower. No surprises there. But speed isn't really what makes this platform interesting. Keeping the stock shouldered, smoothly running the lever and dropping your sights back onto the target becomes its own little skill. Once you find the rhythm, the mechanical feedback is enormously satisfying. Think less sewing machine, more old mechanical watch; you're actually involved in what happens between one shot and the next.

The LEVAR's adjustable hop-up keeps one part of the shooting experience reassuringly familiar. Adjusting the hop allows you to tune the backspin applied to your 6mm BBs according to ammunition weight and shooting conditions. As this is a gas-powered airsoft rifle, performance and muzzle energy can naturally change with ambient temperature, gas pressure and the gas being used, so checking the rifle on a chronograph with your intended BB weight before skirmishing is sensible practice. At approximately 3230g, the 15-inch LEVAR has some real weight behind it as well. It feels planted when shouldered, although a suitable sling will be your friend during a long woodland game.

Then there's the colour. Macaron Blue isn't exactly shy, and paired with the LEVAR's dual-tone finish it makes an already unusual GBB rifle stand out even further. If rows of nearly identical black AR platforms leave you feeling a little cold, this thing is a refreshing change of scenery. It suits modern cowboy, tactical western and post-apocalyptic loadouts particularly well, yet the practical M-LOK front end, Picatinny optics rail and M4 magazine system mean it can still function as a usable skirmish airsoft rifle rather than becoming a wall-hanging novelty.

Ultimately, the G&G LEVAR 15" makes the most sense for players who enjoy the actual process of shooting an airsoft gun. An automatic or semi-automatic platform will obviously be faster when things get frantic at close range, but that's missing the attraction here. The LEVAR rewards patience, smooth manipulation and making each shot count. Add the 15-inch aluminium handguard, 32-round supplied magazine, M4 AEG magazine compatibility, separate internal gas reservoir and that wonderfully odd lever mechanism, and you've got one of G&G's most distinctive modern designs. Strange on paper? Absolutely. Get behind it and start cycling the action, though, and the idea clicks into place rather quickly.
