Description
Specna Arms SA-P27 PRIME™ Daniel Defense® RIII™ 10.5" M4/AR-15 AEG Airsoft Rifle in Black
The Specna Arms SA-P27 PRIME™ Daniel Defense® RIII™ 10.5" M4/AR-15 AEG Airsoft Rifle in Black is the sort of airsoft gun that makes you wonder why you'd bother buying a basic M4 and immediately spending a small fortune upgrading it. Part of Specna Arms' premium PRIME™ series, this full-metal Airsoft AEG combines officially licensed Daniel Defense® styling with a CNC aluminium RIII™ handguard, a high-speed Dark Matter brushless motor and a reinforced gearbox packed with upgraded components. It's a serious specification straight from the box, yet the familiar M4/AR-15 layout makes it approachable for players who already know their way around an electric airsoft rifle. At approximately 2.59kg, it also strikes a sensible balance between solid metal construction and manageable weight. The result is a modern airsoft assault rifle that looks fantastic, feels reassuringly substantial and offers plenty of electronic adjustment without requiring an immediate trip to the workbench.
Starting at the muzzle, the SA-P27 PRIME™ features a traditional birdcage-style flash hider mounted onto standard 14mm counter-clockwise (CCW) male barrel threading. Remove the flash hider and you've got a familiar attachment point for compatible airsoft tracer units, mock suppressors and other suitable muzzle accessories. Behind it sits an approximately 11-inch outer barrel, surrounded by the distinctive 10.5-inch Daniel Defense® RIII™-style CNC aluminium handguard. This is one of the rifle's standout external features, combining authentic Daniel Defense® trademarks with a slim, modern M-LOK design. Compared with traditional quad-rail M4 handguards, the RIII™ arrangement keeps the front end noticeably less bulky while still offering plenty of mounting options. M-LOK slots at the 3, 6 and 9 o'clock positions, along with additional recessed offset mounting points, allow compatible accessories to be positioned without covering the entire handguard in unnecessary rail sections. It's a tidy setup that looks every bit as good as it feels.
Running along the top of the handguard is a continuous 20mm Picatinny rail that meets the upper receiver rail, providing plenty of mounting space for compatible red dot sights, magnifiers and other optics. Specna Arms also includes flip-up polymer iron sights, with elevation adjustment at the front and windage adjustment at the rear. They're a useful backup when you don't fancy running an optic, and they fold away neatly when additional sighting equipment is fitted. An alloy angled foregrip is included with the rifle, giving your support hand a comfortable, consistent position beneath the M-LOK handguard. It's a welcome addition that saves you hunting around for another accessory before your first skirmish. The overall front-end arrangement feels modern without becoming unnecessarily complicated. A compact red dot, a suitable tactical light and the supplied angled grip would make a very practical CQB setup, while the same rifle can be configured for more general woodland airsoft games.
Moving back to the receiver, the Specna Arms SA-P27 features a sturdy alloy upper and lower body with officially licensed Daniel Defense® markings laser engraved into the surface. The traditional M4/AR-15 control arrangement will feel familiar to anyone who's spent time using an airsoft assault rifle, with a conventional magazine release, fire selector and charging handle layout. The selector provides SAFE, SEMI and AUTO positions with positive 90-degree movement between settings, while the skeletonised flat trigger gives the rifle a distinctly modern appearance. The bolt release and forward assist are movable cosmetic details, adding to the realistic feel of the receiver. Pull back the extended charging handle and the steel dust cover opens as the mock bolt moves rearwards, exposing the rotary adjustable HOP-up unit. It's a satisfying little mechanical detail, and having straightforward access to the HOP-up makes adjustments much easier when you're trying to get your BB flight behaving properly.
The rotary HOP-up system is paired with a 280mm-long steel inner barrel measuring 6.02mm in diameter, giving the SA-P27 PRIME™ a solid foundation for consistent BB flight. HOP-up works by applying backspin to the BB, helping it maintain a flatter trajectory over distance. The rotary adjustment design allows smaller, more controlled changes than older M4 gear-wheel arrangements and is generally better at holding its selected position. Specna Arms recommends starting with 0.25g BBs, although finding the best ammunition weight for your particular setup and site conditions is always worth a little experimentation. With a stated muzzle velocity of approximately 350 FPS, subject to a tolerance of plus or minus 10% when measured using 0.20g BBs, the rifle should be checked against your site's chronograph limits before play. Accuracy comes from the complete setup working together, including good BBs, consistent HOP-up adjustment and a clean inner barrel, rather than simply chasing the tightest barrel diameter available.
One of the biggest talking points is the electronic trigger system. Depending on the exact SA-P27 PRIME™ variant supplied, the rifle comes equipped with either a GATE ASTER II Bluetooth® MOSFET or a Specna Arms HAL¹ electronic trigger unit. Both offer a significant step forward from conventional mechanical trigger contacts, but their available functions and programming methods differ. The GATE ASTER II Bluetooth® version allows compatible settings to be configured through the GATE Control Station application, including trigger sensitivity, pre-cocking, rate of fire and programmable firing modes. Supported configurations include combinations of semi-automatic, burst, binary and automatic firing behaviour, along with active braking. Being able to adjust these settings through Bluetooth® is particularly convenient for players who enjoy experimenting with their trigger setup. It's worth checking which ETU version is fitted to the rifle you're purchasing, especially if wireless programming is one of the features you're specifically looking for.
The Specna Arms HAL¹ version takes a slightly different approach while still offering plenty of useful electronic features. It provides five trigger sensitivity levels, six pre-cocking settings, active braking and a low-voltage battery warning. Programmable firing options include three-round and five-round burst modes, binary trigger operation, semi-only settings, sniper delay and a two-stage AUG-style trigger configuration. That's a considerable amount of adjustment for an Airsoft AEG straight from the factory. Pre-cocking can position the gearbox mechanism in preparation for the next shot, reducing the delay between pulling the trigger and firing, while active braking helps control motor over-spin at the end of each cycle. These functions are particularly useful during semi-auto-only CQB games, where responsive, consistent trigger operation matters more than simply having a high automatic firing rate. Whichever electronic system your particular variant uses, follow the relevant manufacturer's programming instructions and ensure your chosen firing mode complies with site rules.
Inside the reinforced Version 2 gearbox is where the PRIME™ series really starts earning its reputation. Specna Arms has strengthened the gearbox shell around the spine and fitted CNC-machined 16:1 steel gears running on 8mm J-CAGE bearings. The 16:1 gear ratio is designed to support responsive gearbox cycling, while the steel construction provides a durable foundation for repeated use. You'll also find a reinforced piston with a full steel tooth rack, a reinforced tappet plate and CNC aluminium components including the piston head, cylinder head and air nozzle. A CNC steel cylinder completes the compression assembly, while the quick-change spring guide makes compatible spring changes more convenient during maintenance. It's a remarkably comprehensive internal specification for a factory-built airsoft rifle. Rather than relying on a basic gearbox and leaving owners to replace half the internals later, Specna Arms has included many of the components experienced airsoft players would normally consider upgrading themselves.
Driving the gearbox is the Specna Arms Dark Matter high-speed brushless motor, another major feature of the SA-P27 PRIME™. Unlike traditional brushed AEG motors, a brushless design uses electronic motor control rather than physical carbon brushes, helping reduce friction, wear and heat generation during operation. The result is a motor designed for efficient, responsive cycling, particularly when paired with the rifle's upgraded steel gear set and electronic trigger system. That doesn't mean you need to chase the highest possible rate of fire, though. One of the nicest things about a well-configured brushless Airsoft AEG is how responsive semi-automatic shooting can feel. A clean trigger pull, a quick gearbox cycle and the rifle is ready for the next shot. Combined with the available pre-cocking settings, the Dark Matter motor gives the PRIME™ platform plenty of potential for a sharp, satisfying trigger response without requiring aftermarket motor upgrades.
At the rear, the SA-P27 uses a six-position adjustable M4 crane stock mounted onto a metal buffer tube, allowing the overall rifle length to change from approximately 72cm when collapsed to 81cm when fully extended. The stock provides internal battery storage, with the rifle wired to a Deans connector for a secure electrical connection. A Deans-to-Mini-Tamiya adapter is also included for additional compatibility. For UK-market PRIME™ models, a 7.4V 1450mAh LiPo battery in crane or nunchuck configuration is the recommended option. Importantly, 11.1V LiPo batteries are not recommended for this UK specification, as they can cause gearbox pre-engagement and resulting faults are stated as being excluded from the 12-month warranty. Stick with the recommended 7.4V setup rather than assuming a higher-voltage battery automatically means better performance. The rifle also includes two approximately 125-round mid-cap magazines, a speed loader and the angled foregrip, giving you a useful selection of accessories straight from the box.
Overall, the Specna Arms SA-P27 PRIME™ Daniel Defense® RIII™ 10.5" is a particularly appealing choice for airsoft players who want a premium M4/AR-15 Airsoft AEG without immediately planning an extensive internal upgrade project. The officially licensed Daniel Defense® furniture, CNC aluminium handguard and full-metal receiver give it the appearance of a modern tactical airsoft rifle, while the reinforced Version 2 gearbox, Dark Matter brushless motor and configurable electronic trigger system provide the technical substance underneath. Its adjustable stock, familiar M4 magazine compatibility and manageable dimensions make it suitable for CQB environments, outdoor skirmishes and general airsoft gameplay. The included magazines and accessories are welcome extras, but the real attraction is the amount of upgraded engineering already fitted inside. If you're looking for an airsoft assault rifle with modern electronics, responsive cycling and a seriously well-equipped gearbox, the SA-P27 PRIME™ makes a very convincing case for itself.

Important Battery Information
For UK-market Specna Arms PRIME™ AEG rifles, we recommend using a compatible 7.4V LiPo battery only. An 11.1V LiPo battery is not recommended for this UK specification, as the increased cycling speed may cause gearbox pre-engagement and potential internal damage. Faults resulting from the use of an 11.1V LiPo battery are stated as not being covered under the 12-month warranty. For dependable operation, use the recommended 7.4V 1450mAh LiPo crane/nunchuck battery configuration and ensure the battery fits the stock compartment correctly.
