The metal slide is arguably the visual centrepiece. An aluminium flared magazine well sits at the bottom and helps funnel the magazine into the grip during hurried changes. Miss the opening by a few millimetres and the flare gives you a helping hand rather than leaving the magazine bouncing off the bottom of the frame. The trigger system is especially interesting. Instead of disguising a conventional hammer arrangement inside a striker-fired-looking shell, the CANiK uses an actual striker-style internal system. The two-stage trigger incorporates its safety into the trigger itself, and during use there's a defined wall followed by a noticeable and audible reset. For players who enjoy the mechanical side of a GBB pistol, that's a neat detail. At the rear you'll also find a cocked-condition indicator. When the system is cocked, a red indicator protrudes and can be both seen and felt, allowing you to check the pistol's condition by touch when lighting isn't exactly cooperating.

A moulded 20mm Picatinny accessory rail runs beneath the front of the frame, providing a conventional mounting point for compatible pistol lights and other suitable accessories. That makes particular sense for indoor CQB, where a compact light can be genuinely useful. The SFx RIVAL's approximately 0.55kg weight also means adding a sensible accessory doesn't immediately turn the airsoft gun into a brick. With its textured grip, slim trigger guard and competition-inspired ergonomics, the pistol feels designed around getting a secure, repeatable grip rather than simply looking impressive in photographs.

Power comes from Green Gas via the supplied low-capacity magazine, which holds approximately 22 6mm BBs. Output is listed at around 300 FPS ±10% using 0.20g BBs, although temperature, gas pressure, HOP-up adjustment and firing conditions can all affect real-world readings. That's normal behaviour for a gas-powered BB pistol, so chrono testing with the gas and BBs you actually intend to use is always worthwhile. The adjustable HOP-up is located around the outer barrel and becomes accessible after removing the slide. It isn't something you'll alter between every shot, but once set correctly for your preferred ammunition, it allows you to concentrate on shooting rather than endlessly fiddling with adjustments.

Put the whole package together and the Cybergun CANiK SFx RIVAL is a distinctive airsoft pistol with more going for it than flashy competition styling. The genuine striker-style operation, metal blowback slide, enlarged controls, adjustable HOP-up, threaded outer barrel and optics-ready configuration all have practical value, while the flared aluminium magwell and textured grip make the pistol particularly satisfying during faster handling. Regular lubrication is required, as you'd expect with a Green Gas GBB pistol, but that's standard gas-gun housekeeping.
