Cybergun CANiK TP9 Elite Combat Gas Blowback Airsoft Pistol in Blue
The Cybergun CANiK TP9 Elite Combat Gas Blowback Airsoft Pistol in Blue takes an already distinctive modern handgun platform and gives it a finish that's very difficult to lose amongst a table full of black sidearms. This officially licensed collaboration between Cybergun, CANiK and Salient Arms International combines competition-inspired SAI styling with a practical gas blowback system and a comfortable polymer frame. The blue colour gives this GBB pistol plenty of personality, while the fluted outer barrel, aggressive slide machining and licensed detailing retain the purposeful appearance of the TP9 Elite Combat. Different? Absolutely. But underneath the colour is a properly feature-packed airsoft gun designed to be used.
Handling is one of the TP9 Elite Combat's strongest points. At approximately 850g, there's enough weight to feel substantial without turning the pistol into an anchor on your belt. The polymer frame uses crackle-style texturing along the sides with more linear texturing on the front and rear of the grip, giving your hand plenty of purchase. There's also a rounded, undercut trigger guard that lets you establish a higher grip. Get your hands around it and everything seems to fall into place naturally. During quick strings of fire, that high grip also makes the blowback movement easier to manage and helps bring the sights back onto target.
Working from the muzzle backwards, you'll find one of the most useful features on this airsoft pistol: a fluted Salient-style outer barrel terminating in a standard 14mm CCW thread. SAI-inspired markings and detailing reinforce the custom competition appearance, while the supplied thread protector keeps the muzzle looking tidy when you're not running an accessory. Unlike pistols that require a tiny 11mm-to-14mm adapter, the TP9's 14mm CCW thread makes attaching many compatible airsoft tracer units or suppressors straightforward. CQB player? Add a tracer and things get very entertaining once you're sending glowing BBs through dark corridors.
The slide is equally well considered. Deep, angled cocking serrations at the front and rear give your fingers a positive gripping surface, which is particularly handy with wet or gloved hands. They're aggressive enough to be useful rather than simply decorative. The top of the slide is also prepared for an optic, with a removable cover allowing a compatible red-dot sight to be installed using the correct mounting plate. If you prefer irons, the Salient-style sight arrangement provides a clean sight picture straight from the box. It gives the TP9 Elite Combat plenty of flexibility without forcing you to bolt accessories onto it from day one.
Left-handed players haven't been forgotten either. The enlarged slide stop controls are ambidextrous, while the magazine release can be reversed to suit your preferred hand. Beneath the grip sits a CNC-machined Salient-style flared magazine well, helping guide the 22-round gas magazine into position during reloads. In practice, that flare makes more difference than you might think. Come into a reload slightly off-centre and the wider opening helps funnel the magazine home instead of leaving you fumbling around the bottom of the grip. When somebody is pushing your position in CQB, little details suddenly feel rather important.
Inside, the CANiK TP9 Elite Combat uses a striker-fired system rather than the conventional exposed-hammer arrangement found on many GBB pistol platforms. The trigger provides a distinct break followed by a short, noticeable reset, giving you useful tactile feedback during controlled follow-up shots. Fire, release to the reset, then you're ready for the next BB. Nice and intuitive. Combined with the cycling slide and Green Gas power source, the striker-style setup gives this BB pistol a satisfyingly mechanical character every time you pull the trigger.
The adjustable gear-style hop-up provides the tuning needed to get the best trajectory from your preferred BB weight. It's accessed during field stripping, keeping the adjustment mechanism neatly protected during normal use. Once you've found the sweet spot, the pistol is capable of consistent skirmish-friendly performance. Expect approximately 310–325 FPS depending on BB weight, gas pressure and temperature. As seasoned GBB users will know, gas pistols can behave rather differently between a chilly January morning and a warm summer game, so those figures should be treated as a useful guide rather than carved in stone.
There's plenty of room for accessories as well. A Picatinny rail underneath the front of the polymer frame provides a mounting point for compatible pistol lights and other suitable rail accessories. Combine that with the optics-ready slide and 14mm CCW threaded barrel and you've got a remarkably configurable airsoft handgun. Run it clean for a lightweight secondary, fit a red dot for practical pistol shooting, or add a light and tracer for CQB. The TP9 Elite Combat gives you the foundations and lets you decide where to go from there.
The Cybergun CANiK TP9 Elite Combat Blue is a great choice for players who want their GBB pistol to have some character without sacrificing useful features. Official CANiK and Salient Arms licensing, ergonomic controls, a striker-fired trigger, adjustable hop-up, flared magazine well and accessory-friendly design make it much more than a colourful display piece. The blue finish may be the first thing that catches your eye, but it's the way the pistol handles that leaves the stronger impression. Comfortable, responsive and refreshingly different from another anonymous black airsoft pistol, it's a modern sidearm with plenty of personality.
