G&G Armament ARP-556 Combat Machine AEG Airsoft Rifle with Sliding PDW Stock - Black

The G&G Armament ARP-556 Combat Machine AEG Airsoft Rifle takes everything players love about the legendary ARP-9 and gives it a proper M4-style makeover. Compact, aggressive and seriously quick on the trigger, this little beast is made for players who enjoy getting stuck into fast-paced CQB skirmishes. The big difference? Instead of the ARP-9's distinctive 9mm-style magazines, the ARP-556 uses standard M4/AR15 AEG magazines, making it a much more convenient choice for anyone already running an M4 platform. Add a solid metal receiver, programmable electronic trigger and sliding PDW stock into the mix, and you've got an airsoft rifle that packs plenty of personality into a surprisingly small package. Finished in tactical black, it looks every bit as mean as it sounds.

Starting at the business end, G&G has fitted the ARP-556 with its unmistakable alloy sound amplifier, mounted onto standard 14mm CCW threads at the end of the 5-inch alloy outer barrel. And blimey, does this thing make some noise! Rather than keeping the muzzle report subdued, the amplifier exaggerates the mechanical crack of each shot, producing a sharp, metallic bark that gives this Airsoft AEG a surprisingly intimidating presence. It's the sort of sound that makes other players turn their heads when you open up down a corridor. The amplifier can also be removed to reveal the 14mm counter-clockwise threading, allowing compatible aftermarket muzzle accessories to be fitted. Surrounding the barrel is a lightweight 5-inch aluminium M-LOK handguard, giving the rifle a modern, streamlined appearance without adding unnecessary bulk. Two M-LOK mounting slots at the 3, 6 and 9 o'clock positions allow you to attach compatible accessories or additional rail sections, while the full-length upper Picatinny rail provides room for optics and other suitable attachments.

Sitting along that upper rail are metal flip-up iron sights, featuring a front sight post and an adjustable rear aperture. They're easy to fold away when running a red dot sight and equally handy when you fancy keeping things simple. Moving back, the ARP-556 features G&G's robust CG-series metal receiver, with angular styling and a flared magazine well that helps guide magazines into position during hurried reloads. Anyone who has fumbled a magazine change while being showered with BBs will appreciate that little detail! The receiver also incorporates textured gripping surfaces around the front of the magazine well, offering another comfortable support-hand position when working through tight spaces. Both the magazine release and fire selector are ambidextrous, making this compact airsoft assault rifle equally practical for left-handed and right-handed players. The magazine release buttons are also protected by raised fencing to help prevent accidental activation when brushing against tactical equipment.

The attention to detail continues around the receiver controls. An ambidextrous alloy charging handle features steel extensions, while the metal forward assist and steel dust cover add to the rifle's convincing appearance. Pull back the charging handle and you'll expose the adjustable rotary HOP-up unit beneath the mock bolt carrier. This allows you to fine-tune the backspin applied to your BBs, helping achieve a consistent flight path when using suitable ammunition. It's an important adjustment, especially when you're switching between different BB weights or moving from close indoor engagements to longer outdoor shooting lanes. The textured pistol grip features a comfortable filled backstrap, giving your firing hand a secure, natural position. G&G has also fitted a skeletonised flat-faced trigger and enlarged metal trigger guard, making the controls comfortable to operate even when wearing tactical gloves. Small details, perhaps, but they all contribute to a rifle that feels properly thought out.

Now for the really interesting bit: the internals. Inside the ARP-556 sits a reinforced Version 2 gearbox with 8mm bearings, an Electronic Trigger Unit (ETU) and an integrated programmable MOSFET. This combination is responsible for the rifle's impressively responsive trigger and fast cycling performance. The ETU electronically registers each trigger pull, helping deliver consistent semi-automatic operation without relying on conventional mechanical trigger contacts. The MOSFET also helps protect the trigger circuit from electrical wear, particularly during extended periods of semi-auto shooting. G&G has designed this setup to work with 11.1V LiPo batteries, giving the ARP-556 the electrical performance needed for its lively rate of fire. And when you squeeze that flat trigger, the response certainly suits the rifle's aggressive character. For CQB players who rely on quick follow-up shots rather than simply holding down the trigger, that responsive semi-auto performance is a particularly welcome feature.

Another clever feature is the programmable firing system. The G&G ARP-556 offers safe and semi-automatic settings, with the third selector position configurable between full-auto and three-round burst. Programming is refreshingly straightforward: set the selector to semi-automatic and hold the trigger for approximately 10 seconds to switch the third firing mode. No complicated programming equipment required. Full-auto gives you the classic electric airsoft rifle experience, while three-round burst provides a controlled alternative for players who prefer shorter strings of BBs. With a quoted muzzle velocity of approximately 340 FPS, this compact M4-style AEG offers useful performance for a variety of skirmish environments, although you'll naturally want to check your local site's FPS limits before heading into a game. The adjustable HOP-up and responsive gearbox make the ARP-556 an interesting option for players who enjoy both indoor CQB and mixed-range skirmishing.

At the rear, G&G has fitted its distinctive GOS-V5 sliding PDW stock, which gives the ARP-556 much of its compact, submachine gun-inspired silhouette. The stock uses sturdy alloy guide bars and offers two extended positions, allowing you to adjust the overall length between approximately 510mm and 600mm. Collapse it completely and the rifle becomes wonderfully compact for navigating doorways, tight corridors and awkward corners. Extend it when you need a more conventional shoulder position or extra clearance around a plate carrier. Despite its short dimensions, the ARP-556 weighs approximately 2.4kg, giving it a reassuringly substantial feel thanks to the metal construction. An integrated ambidextrous sling loop beneath the stock provides a convenient attachment point for a compatible single-point sling, particularly useful when transitioning between your primary airsoft gun and other equipment.

The GOS-V5 stock also houses the battery compartment, so battery choice deserves a little consideration. The available battery space measures approximately 129mm x 32.5mm, with a Mini-Tamiya connector located inside the rear battery tube. Although certain compact 11.1V LiPo batteries up to around 1100mAh may fit depending on their dimensions, a smaller 11.1V 600mAh PDW-style battery is generally easier to accommodate. Players wanting additional battery room can consider a compatible Airtech Studios battery extension unit. Accessing the compartment involves releasing and removing the rear stock assembly, then opening the battery tube end cap. It's a little more involved than dropping a battery into a conventional crane stock, but that's the trade-off for such a compact rear-end design. The battery and charger are not included, so remember to choose a suitable LiPo battery and compatible balance charger before your first skirmish.

One of the ARP-556's biggest selling points is its compatibility with common M4/AR15 AEG magazines. The supplied 300-round high-capacity magazine gives you plenty of ammunition to get started, while the familiar STANAG-style magazine well means existing M4 users can make use of compatible magazines already in their kit bags. No need to start collecting a completely different magazine system. The combination of its short front end, metal receiver, ambidextrous controls and electronic trigger makes the G&G ARP-556 Combat Machine a cracking choice for players who want a compact CQB airsoft rifle without sacrificing the familiar handling of an M4. It's loud, responsive and full of character, with enough practical features to back up its rather intimidating appearance. If you've been eyeing up the ARP-9 but prefer standard M4 magazines and a solid metal body, the ARP-556 makes a very convincing argument for itself.
