The Rossi Neptune SAS 10.5 L119A2 Style AEG Airsoft Rifle in Black takes its inspiration from the compact modern carbines associated with UK Special Forces, but there's considerably more to this rifle than the familiar UKSF-style silhouette. Rossi has paired a full metal receiver with a CNC-machined 10.5-inch lightweight handguard, collapsible stock and metal folding sights, then given the internals a specification that should catch the attention of experienced airsofters. A programmable electronic trigger, active-braking MOSFET, 16:1 CNC gears and Maple Leaf hop components are already fitted. In other words, this Airsoft AEG doesn't arrive begging for an immediate shopping list of internal upgrades.

Starting at the front, the CNC-machined 10.5-inch metal handguard gives the Neptune its distinctive short-carbine proportions. It's compact enough to remain manageable when working around barricades, woodland structures and indoor environments, without pushing the rifle into tiny PDW territory. Beneath the handguard is a one-piece outer barrel containing a 300mm precision inner barrel with a 6.02mm bore. Tight-bore diameter alone doesn't guarantee an accurate airsoft rifle, of course, which is why the hop components are arguably more interesting. Rossi has fitted a Maple Leaf 60° Super Macaron bucking together with a Maple Leaf Omega Nub – two names that will already be familiar to plenty of players who've spent time upgrading AEG hop setups.

That Maple Leaf combination is designed to provide a controlled contact patch against the BB and apply consistent backspin as it travels through the hop unit. Get the adjustment right for your preferred BB weight and it can help produce the flatter, more predictable trajectory you're looking for at normal skirmish ranges. Small adjustments are the trick. Too little hop and the BB drops away early; wind in far too much and it'll head upwards like it's suddenly remembered an appointment in the clouds. Paired with the 300mm 6.02mm inner barrel, the hop setup gives this electric airsoft gun a well-specified foundation before you've touched a single internal component.

Moving back, the full metal receiver and metal stock tube give the Neptune a reassuringly substantial centre section. Rossi then uses a collapsible nylon-fibre stock at the rear, allowing overall length to be adjusted from approximately 740mm to 810mm. Shorten it when you're working through tighter spaces or wearing bulky equipment, then extend it when you want a more conventional shoulder position. At approximately 2500g, there's enough weight here for the airsoft assault rifle to feel solid without becoming an unnecessary burden halfway through a game day. Folding metal sights are also supplied, giving you a usable mechanical sighting arrangement that can be tucked down when you decide to add a compatible optic.

Inside the receiver is where things become particularly interesting. The Neptune uses Rossi's V2 programmable electronic trigger system together with a MOSFET featuring active braking. Standard Semi-Auto and Full-Auto operation is joined by programmable binary and selectable 2, 3, 4 or 5-round burst modes. Binary operation allows the electronic system to provide firing actions on the trigger pull and release when appropriately configured. It's an unusual option and certainly entertaining to experiment with, although programmable firing modes should always be configured around the rules of the airsoft site you're attending. The marshal's rules still win. Every time.

The electronic trigger isn't sitting on top of a bare-bones gearbox either. Rossi uses a 16:1 CNC gear set supported by 8mm bearings, along with a steel-tooth piston, bearing-equipped piston head and QD metal spring guide with its own bearing. The 16:1 gearing provides a slightly faster ratio than the conventional 18:1 arrangement commonly encountered in standard V2 gearboxes, making it a sensible match for an Airsoft AEG focused on responsive operation without wandering into an extreme high-speed build. Active braking electronically helps bring the motor to a controlled stop after the firing cycle, complementing the programmable trigger setup.

Air-seal components haven't been ignored. A CNC aluminium nozzle with an O-ring forms part of the compression setup, helping maintain consistent air delivery during firing. Consistency here matters because an AEG producing noticeably different muzzle energy from shot to shot isn't doing its downrange performance any favours. There's also a quick-change spring system, making access to the main spring far less involved than with older V2 gearbox designs. If spring work is required for maintenance or appropriate power adjustment, you don't have to approach the gearbox like you're defusing a bomb surrounded by tiny screws and springs. Any resulting power change should, naturally, be checked on a chronograph before the rifle returns to play.

Rossi quotes approximately 330 FPS for the Neptune SAS 10.5, although the actual output of an individual airsoft gun can vary according to spring condition, compression, ammunition and testing method. Chronographing the rifle according to your site's requirements is therefore the sensible approach. The combination of a short 10.5-inch exterior with a 300mm inner barrel and Maple Leaf hop setup also demonstrates why barrel length shouldn't be treated as the deciding factor in airsoft range. A compact airsoft rifle with a properly adjusted hop and good-quality BBs can be considerably more useful than a long rifle with a poorly set hop unit.

Two 120-round polymer mid-cap magazines are supplied with the rifle, giving you 240 rounds of combined capacity straight from the box. Mid-caps don't require winding and avoid the familiar loose-BB rattle of a partly empty high-cap magazine, which makes them a particularly nice match for a UKSF-inspired carbine build. The conventional AR-pattern layout should also feel immediately familiar to anyone who's previously used an M4-style Airsoft AEG. You get the recognisable magazine position, adjustable stock and carbine handling without needing to relearn an unusual set of controls.

The Rossi Neptune SAS 10.5 stands out because the attention paid to the L119A2-inspired exterior is matched by some genuinely useful internal hardware. The full metal construction, CNC handguard and compact dimensions give you the modern UKSF carbine appearance, while the 16:1 CNC gears, 8mm bearings, steel-tooth piston, programmable MOSFET trigger and Maple Leaf hop components give the technical specification some real substance. Add the quick-change spring system, approximately 330 FPS output and two supplied mid-caps and you've got an electric airsoft rifle that's already nicely equipped for skirmishing. Short, purposeful and with considerably more hiding inside than the understated black exterior first suggests.
