Army Armament R614-1 Jag Precision/TTI Licensed JW4 Pit Viper Gas Blowback Airsoft Pistol in Black

The Army Armament R614-1 JW4 Pit Viper Gas Blowback Airsoft Pistol in Black brings one of the most recognisable competition-style handgun designs from John Wick: Chapter 4 into airsoft form. Made by Army Armament in cooperation with Jag Precision and carrying official Taran Tactical Innovations licensing, this Green Gas GBB pistol certainly has the looks, but there's plenty of practical hardware underneath them too. A full metal blowback slide, aluminium alloy frame and barrel, heavily textured polymer grip and competition-inspired controls give the R614-1 a substantial feel in the hand. At approximately 230mm long and weighing just over 1kg, this isn't a featherweight airsoft handgun. Pick it up and there's a reassuring bit of heft to the thing.

Starting at the front, the Pit Viper uses a 100mm inner barrel with a 6.03mm internal diameter. Working alongside it is an adjustable hop-up system, allowing you to tune the amount of backspin applied to your 6mm BBs and achieve a flatter, more consistent trajectory. As always with hop adjustment, tiny changes beat wildly turning things backwards and forwards. Get your preferred BB weight loaded, fire a few test shots and gradually dial it in. Once you've found the sweet spot, leave it alone and enjoy the results. The stated velocity is approximately 320 FPS, within a quoted 301-350 FPS performance range depending on conditions.

Being powered by Green Gas means those performance figures can naturally move around with temperature, gas pressure, BB weight and other environmental factors. A freshly filled magazine on a warm afternoon can behave differently from the same GBB pistol during a cold winter game, so chronographing the airsoft gun with the ammunition and gas you're actually using is always sensible. More importantly, Green Gas powers the blowback action. Every shot cycles the full metal slide and resets the action, giving you that satisfying mechanical snap that makes gas blowback pistols so much more involving to shoot than a fixed-slide design. It's a little noisy, a little lively and rather addictive.

The sighting arrangement suits the competition theme perfectly. A fibre optic front sight provides a bright visual reference that's quick for the eye to pick up, particularly against darker targets and indoor backgrounds. At the rear is an adjustable sight, allowing the sighting setup to be tuned rather than leaving you stuck with a completely fixed arrangement. Ever had the front sight disappear against a dark target just as you're trying to take the shot? That's exactly where a bright fibre optic starts earning its keep. Combined with the long competition-style profile of the Pit Viper, the sight setup feels purposeful rather than decorative.

Move down onto the frame and the R614-1 continues the performance-pistol approach. The polymer grip uses an aggressive textured finish that gives your hands plenty to hold onto, even when gloves, rain or sweaty palms enter the equation. An enlarged magazine release is positioned for easier operation, while the substantial flared magwell at the base of the grip acts like a funnel during reloads. Instead of needing to line the magazine up perfectly with the grip opening, the wider mouth helps guide it home. It's one of those features that can look slightly extravagant on the bench but makes complete sense when you're trying to reload behind cover in a hurry.

The supplied Green Gas magazine holds 28 6mm BBs and features an extended base pad, complementing the enlarged magwell and giving you something substantial to grab during magazine changes. Twenty-eight rounds is a useful capacity for an airsoft pistol, particularly if you're running the R614-1 as a secondary alongside an Airsoft AEG or GBB rifle. The extended magazine release and base pad work nicely together too. Hit the release, swap magazines and get back onto target without having to wrestle with tiny controls. Very competition gun. Very Pit Viper.

Army Armament has also fitted an ambidextrous thumb safety, making the airsoft handgun straightforward to operate from either side. That's naturally useful for left-handed players, but ambidextrous controls can be equally handy when you're forced to manipulate the pistol from an unconventional position. Ahead of the trigger guard is an integral lower accessory rail for a compatible tactical light or other suitable pistol-mounted accessory. For indoor CQB, a compact weapon light can be a genuinely useful addition, while leaving the rail empty preserves the clean JW4 Pit Viper profile for players more interested in the replica side of things.

The aluminium alloy slide, frame and barrel give the R614-1 much of its substantial feel, while the polymer grip keeps the contact area comfortable and provides the aggressive texture associated with the design. That combination also suits the blowback system nicely. There's enough moving metal to make each firing cycle feel mechanical and satisfying without losing the practical ergonomics of a modern competition airsoft pistol. Regular GBB maintenance is worthwhile, of course. Keep the inner barrel clean, look after the magazine seals and use suitable airsoft-safe lubricant sparingly on the appropriate moving surfaces. A light application is maintenance; turning the internals into an oil slick isn't.

There's no escaping the John Wick connection, and frankly, why would you want to? The licensed Taran Tactical Innovations styling is a major part of the R614-1's appeal, particularly for film fans and collectors building a JW4-inspired setup. The important bit is that the specification doesn't rely entirely on movie recognition. You still get an adjustable hop-up, 6.03mm inner barrel, 28-round Green Gas magazine, fibre optic front sight, adjustable rear sight, ambidextrous safety, enlarged controls and a proper full metal blowback action. As a skirmishable airsoft pistol, those are features you'll actually use rather than details that merely look good in the cabinet.

The Army Armament R614-1 Jag Precision/TTI Pit Viper therefore manages to cover both sides of the equation rather well. It's immediately recognisable as the competition-inspired JW4 airsoft gun that many players will want purely for its appearance, yet it has the hardware to make taking it onto the field worthwhile. The hefty construction and blowback give it character, the textured grip keeps it planted in your hand, and the flared magwell and enlarged magazine release make reloads refreshingly uncomplicated. Add that bright fibre optic sight and the whole package feels built around fast, enjoyable pistol shooting. Movie replica on the outside, proper Green Gas airsoft handgun underneath.
