G&G Armament TR80 DMR GT Advanced G2 AEG Airsoft Rifle with ETU + MOSFET in Black
The G&G Armament TR80 DMR GT Advanced G2 AEG takes the designated marksman concept in a refreshingly different direction. Rather than looking like another M4 that's been stretched at both ends, this airsoft rifle has its own distinctive receiver, long free-float front end and highly adjustable GOS-V12 stock. At approximately 3.4kg, it has the reassuring heft you'd expect from a full-length DMR without becoming unnecessarily cumbersome. Pick it up and the layout immediately makes sense for outdoor skirmishing, where holding a firing lane, supporting your team and taking considered semi-auto shots are more important than squeezing through tiny doorways.
Up front, G&G fits a steel multi-port flash hider onto a standard 14mm CCW male thread. That's useful because it leaves plenty of options for compatible airsoft suppressors and tracer units. Behind it is an 18.5-inch fluted aluminium outer barrel, giving this airsoft gun its unmistakable long-range profile while the fluting adds a bit of visual character without piling on unnecessary bulk. Inside you'll find a 475mm long, 6.08mm inner barrel. Combined with the adjustable HOP-up, it's a setup designed around the longer DMR format. G&G recommends 0.25g BBs, while quoted testing puts velocity at approximately 330 FPS, with a ±10% tolerance when using 0.20g ammunition.
Surrounding that barrel is a long CNC aluminium M-LOK handguard with mounting positions at 3, 6 and 9 o'clock. There's loads of usable space for a bipod, hand stop or other compatible accessories without turning the front end into a cheese grater of unused Picatinny rail. A continuous 20mm top rail runs along the handguard and receiver, leaving plenty of room for a scope and appropriate mounting hardware. On a DMR-style Airsoft AEG, that generous uninterrupted rail space is particularly welcome. No awkward shuffling of scope rings around tiny gaps. Fit your setup where it feels comfortable and get on with playing.
One of the TR80's cleverer features is its externally accessible HOP-up adjustment. Instead of pulling back a charging handle and peering through a mock ejection port, the adjustment is positioned at the front of the dummy gas block. It's a small detail, but on the field it's genuinely handy when you're fine-tuning BB flight. Further back, the high-density polymer receiver helps balance the weight of the long barrel and aluminium handguard. The magazine release and SAFE/SEMI fire selector are ambidextrous, while the charging handle can be configured on either the left or right side. There's also a semi-flat ported trigger, which provides a broad contact point that feels well suited to repeated, controlled semi-auto firing.
Open up the technical specification and the TR80 starts showing its GT Advanced credentials. The gearbox uses 18:1 steel gears running on 8mm steel ball-bearing bushings, with G&G's Orange 25K IRFIT high-speed motor providing the drive. A quick-change spring arrangement is fitted as well, but the electronic package is the star of the show. The programmable ETU and MOSFET system works with the included wireless programming remote, allowing adjustment of pre-cocking, three trigger-sensitivity settings, bolt-stop behaviour and system diagnostics. It gives experienced players useful control over how the electric rifle behaves without cluttering the outside with extra switches and buttons.
The stop-firing-on-empty function is another neat touch when compatible magazines are used. Run the magazine empty and the Airsoft AEG stops cycling instead of continuing to fire dry. Insert a loaded magazine and operation can be resumed using the bolt catch or charging handle. It adds a little extra interaction to reloads and, importantly, the feature can be switched off through the wireless controller if that's not your cup of tea. The supplied mid-cap magazine holds approximately 48 rounds, which fits the designated marksman character nicely and encourages deliberate shooting rather than leaning on the trigger.
Then there's the GOS-V12 stock, which looks like G&G's engineers were given a checklist and decided to tick every box. It folds to the side using a conductive hinge arrangement, maintaining the electrical connection without relying on loose wiring passing awkwardly through the folding point. Length of pull can be adjusted, along with the cheek riser and butt plate, making it much easier to build a comfortable shooting position around your optic and face protection. Underneath sits a folding, length-adjustable monopod for supported positions. When the monopod is folded away, its mounting section can also serve as a 20mm rail. Slightly unusual? Yep. But on a purpose-built DMR, it makes considerably more sense than it first appears.
Power comes from an 11.1V LiPo battery, with the rear-wired battery compartment accessed through the butt plate and a Mini-Tamiya connector fitted as standard. Battery space is limited, so a compact PDW-style LiPo is the sensible direction to look in. It's also worth remembering that the TR80 is a more sophisticated airsoft gun than a basic mechanical AEG. If the receiver is split for maintenance or upgrades, G&G's specified sector gear reset procedure needs to be followed before reassembly and operation. The gearbox should not simply be cycled while the receiver is separated. Definitely one of those occasions where reading the manual before reaching for the screwdriver pays off.
As a complete package, the G&G TR80 DMR GT Advanced G2 is an interesting alternative for players looking for a modern electric DMR rather than another familiar AR-based build. The 475mm inner barrel, CNC M-LOK handguard, semi-auto configuration, programmable electronic trigger, 25K motor and extensively adjustable stock all suit the designated marksman role, while ambidextrous controls make the platform easy to configure around the individual shooter. It's long, purposeful and packed with practical engineering details. For woodland games and open sites where you can make use of that DMR layout, the TR80 has plenty of character both inside and out.
